From bungalow to five-bedroom family home in Horton
A complete property transformation by Milford & Sons, completed October 2024.

The project
The brief
Extend an existing bungalow upwards and to the rear to create a five-bedroom family home, with four bedrooms upstairs so the parents and children could sleep on the same floor.
Starting with architect-supplied drawings, Milford & Sons took responsibility for delivering the transformation from beginning to end.
Solving the upstairs layout
As the build progressed, it became clear that the proposed roof arrangement would leave two upstairs bedrooms with insufficient headroom. Making those rooms usable required a substantial rethink.
Charlie reworked the layout and rebuilt the roof across the entire house to accommodate the bedrooms. This was a defining part of the project: adapting the original design to create practical rooms within the available space.
The roof reconstruction also demonstrated Charlie’s carpentry skills, which the homeowner singled out as a particular highlight of the work.
Transforming the whole property
Charlie’s involvement extended beyond the main building work. Throughout the project, he contributed ideas and practical suggestions that helped shape the finished home.
Milford & Sons delivered and coordinated the renovation and extensions, alongside the interiors, garden, front of the property and driveway. Charlie managed the work across the whole property, keeping responsibility for the complete transformation.
The result
Completed in October 2024, the project transformed the original bungalow into a five-bedroom family home with the four upstairs bedrooms the family wanted.
From resolving the roof and headroom challenges to completing the outdoor spaces, the Horton project demonstrates Milford & Sons’ ability to adapt, build and manage a substantial home transformation from start to finish.
